Preparation and Mounting
We can provide Digital storage of your images, use specialist techniques to mount tapestries, craft-work, memorabilia and even mimic the raised brush effects of an oil painting
Digital storage
We can scan in and archive your images so that repeat prints can be ordered without any further setup charges. These scans can be restored or tweaked, please read the Need to Know page
Tapestries and embroidery
Fabric art where a design is worked with a needle and thread can be difficult to frame.
Our ‘Craft-work’ mounter has special training in preparing needlework, embroidery and other craft-work items for framing. General preparation includes pressing and straightening fabrics, mounting using conservation grade tapes and glues, onto backings including cardboard, foamcore, MDF or canvas with various finishes including Matt, Gloss, Linen, Sandtex
Box Frames
We can use a ‘spacer’ between your artwork and the glass. This creates a box effect, which keeps your artwork away from the glass, and which is especially useful for delicate or 3D materials
Specialist Preparation
- Our specialist mounter can even ‘paint’ texture onto prints to resemble the raised brush mark effect of an oil-painting.
- We can apply a ‘canvas’ layer over prints to give the hand-painted effect.
- For added realism we can ‘distress’ mounts to make them look aged.
- All glues and tapes used in preparing work are conservation quality
Original paintings
Oil, Acrylic and similar media
Please allow adequate time for your media to dry thoroughly before bringing it for framing or printing. If your oil painting is to be framed, it will be stretched, or mounted onto a board, depending on the way the image has been painted.
Watercolour, pastel and pencil paintings
Pastel media can respond to static by lifting off the substrate, and pencil may smudge. Fixatives are available, but some artists feel that using a fixative change the media colour. These paintings need to be carefully protected and encased in a glazed frame. They are not dry mounted as this can make the picture appear flattened because the texture is lost and is some cases will de-value the original.
Dry Mounting prints and modern photos
Our dry mounting is all carried out using an HGP 360 Vacuum Press which enables us to handles a wide range of presentation materials – from foam board and wood to photos, art prints and delicate fabrics.
Valuable or old Photos
We can scan in and archive your old photos so that repeat prints can be ordered without any further setup charges. These scans can be restored or tweaked, please read the ‘Need to know section for more information. We can use fully reversible processes ensuring your photo is undamaged by the framing process. Our staff will be pleased to advise you.
Medals
We can mount medals individually, or on your medal bar. If you want to wear your medals we can build you an easily accessible frame to keep them safe.
Sport shirts and Memorabilia Framing
If your shirt is valuable as many are, ask us about different framing techniques as some economy mounting and framing methods can damage your shirt. We can create a layout to show several items of memorabilia together, or use a photo mounted directly onto the mount surrounding your treasured items – like this baby ballerina shoe.
